Who this is for
- Anyone “about to decide” on a November Seoul trip
- People who want the peak-foliage week but haven’t booked a room yet
- Travelers who’d rather know now what to wear and what November is for eating
Lately, one question keeps showing up in Korea-travel posts: “When is the right time for Seoul in November?” A surprising number of people arrive to find the leaves already gone.
Here’s the thing. Most years, downtown foliage peaks between Nov 1 and 10, and flights and rooms are still cheap. The last window to lock in a room for peak week is late September to early October.
“So what’s left in November after the leaves?” If that’s you, Seoulog boiled the month down to four faces and three planning rules. Let’s get into it.

1. Starts with Foliage, Ends with Kimchi? Seoul’s “Four Faces” of November

✔ Early to late, in order
Early November is peak foliage downtown. Changdeokgung’s Secret Garden, Namsan and the palaces hit their brightest, and the ginkgo gold holds into mid-month. Mid-month belongs to the “Suneung,” the college entrance exam scheduled for Thursday, Nov 19. It’s the country’s biggest test day: office hours shift that morning, and during the listening section even flights are held. Almost no impact on travelers, but you’ll feel the country’s education fever first-hand. From mid to late month the lantern-festival season begins along Cheonggyecheon and elsewhere (dates announced in autumn). Then late November brings kimjang, the kimchi-making season, and the first cold snap. One month, and the season flips.

| November Seoul | What it means |
|---|---|
| Temps | Mornings can hit ~0°C — pack winter layers |
| Last foliage | Downtown holds until early Nov |
| Shopping | Korea Sale FESTA month |
| Nights | Night-view & lights season begins |
✔ This one comes first, in order. Skim “What to Wear in Seoul from Late September to November” and the rest of this page lands better.
2. Coming Early? Book Now! Three Rules for a November Itinerary
✔ Only three things to remember
① For foliage, early November is the only pick. Downtown peaks between Nov 1 and 10 most years, which is why the Secret Garden reservation from our foliage guide should be made the day your dates are set. ② Dress for “the doorway to winter.” Normal highs are 11.9°C and lows 3.5°C. October’s three layers get upgraded with a light down jacket and a scarf, and mornings will still feel cold. ③ Plan the last third as “the eating month.” Once the leaves drop, Seoul enters the season when steaming food tastes best—dakhanmari, gamjatang, and kimchi fresh from the crock.

3. What Did September Deliver? The Autumn Korea Trip, Blueprinted
This September the blog assembled the whole blueprint for an autumn trip: the payment-and-transport basics (cards, taxis, subway, delivery), a complete Chuseok playbook, the experience deep-dives (jjimjilbang, body scrub, hanbok, markets, cafés), two day trips (Nami Island, Suwon), plus the October holidays and the foliage forecast.
Every one of those posts has a spot marked “updated as soon as announced”—KTX booking dates, night openings, the foliage forecast. See you in Seoul in October. The city’s best season starts here.
In short
• Early November = the city’s foliage climax. Coming then? Book hotels and the Secret Garden now
• The Suneung exam (slated Nov 19) barely touches travelers — but defines the day nationally
• From mid-month: lantern festivals and kimjang — the month of light and food
• Dress at winter’s door (11.9°/3.5° normals): light down and scarf become standard
• Detailed guides arrive through October — this preview’s message is “book now”
