One Instagram Post Is Enough! Korean Salons Price by Designer Rank—Cuts From 25,000 Won, Hippie Perms 100,000–300,000, and a Scalp Clinic Where 80 Percent of Clients Are Foreign [Things Worth Doing in Korea #13]

In three lines

  • Korean salons price by the designer’s rank. As a guide: women’s cut 25,000–60,000 won, men’s cut 20,000–40,000, perm 100,000–300,000, color 80,000–200,000, scalp or hair clinic 50,000–150,000.
  • What foreigners ask for most: layered cuts, hush cuts, hippie perms, C-curl wave perms, and for men the As perm and shadow perm. Show a photo and say “this one” — no Korean required.
  • Book through Creatrip or Klook salon packages, Naver booking or the salon’s Instagram. Start with shops used to foreign guests: JUNO SEOUL, the JUNO Hair flagship in Hannam-dong, TheDaysHair or voguehair in Hongdae, or Jenny House in Cheongdam — shops with hundreds to thousands of high Google ratings.

Who this is for

  • Anyone who wants the K-pop idol or drama-lead hairstyle, done in Korea
  • People who froze at the booking screen when asked to pick designer, director or owner
  • Anyone who wants the exact shape they’re after, with zero Korean

Look at what foreigners paid for in Myeongdong and, in 2025, hair salons made up 43 percent of transactions. Dermatology took the top spot in 2026, but the stream of travelers getting a cut and a perm in Korea before flying home is as wide as ever. Some want the same shape as a K-pop idol, some want a hairstyle from a drama; what they share is the sense that it’s done better here, for less.

Korean salons have one feature that confuses foreigners: designer ranks. Here’s the thing—in the same shop, “designer,” “sil-jang” (director) and “won-jang” (owner) charge different prices, and the price changes with whom you name. Put the other way, you can choose to fit your budget: a cut from 25,000 won, a perm from 100,000 up to 300,000.

“Which styles are popular, where do I go, and how do I order?” This guide covers the styles foreigners ask for and what they cost, how to choose a designer, booking and the day itself, how to show a photo, and where to go among Hannam, Cheongdam, Hongdae and Myeongdong. Let’s get into it.

Half to a Third of the Price at Home! Why Get Your Hair Done in Korea—Skill, Price, and “a Photo Is Enough”

✔ Three reasons Korean salons win with foreigners
Skill: stylists who make K-pop and drama hairstyles every day, all over the country. Price: a perm of the same standard for half to a third of what it costs at home. And a low language barrier, because Korean stylists are used to being shown pictures. Hold up one Instagram post, say “igeoyo” (this one), and the details proceed with fingers and the mirror.

Four reasons it gets chosen — Salons were 43% of Myeongdong’s foreign transactions in 2025

According to Creatrip, its beauty and medical category grew 71 percent in 2025, and salons are a steady pillar within it. At JUNO SEOUL, the JUNO Hair flagship in Hannam-dong, about 80 percent of scalp-care clients are now foreign.

A Long Hippie Perm Can Hit 200,000–300,000 Won? The Styles Foreigners Ask For—Layered, Hush, Hippie, Wave, As

✔ For women’s cuts it’s the layered cut and the hush cut
Both are built on face-framing layers for movement—“the hairstyle of a Korean drama lead” gets the idea across. Perms split in two. The hippie perm puts fine waves through the whole head for volume and holds its shape with just a blow-dry. The wave (mulgyeol) perm is a large C-curl that keeps the shine and reads calmer. Length and product add to the price; a long hippie perm can reach 200,000–300,000 won.

For men the standards are the As perm and the shadow perm. The As perm puts loose curl through the whole head including the fringe; the shadow perm shaves the sides and adds movement only on top. Cuts run 20,000–40,000 won and perms 80,000–150,000, and a photo of a male K-pop idol works as the order form.

For color, ash and brown tones without bleach run 80,000–200,000 won; bright shades with bleach cost extra and take three hours or more. On a trip, budget spent on shape rather than color tends to bring more satisfaction.

Salons With Thousands of Reviews, Side by Side! Where to Go—Hannam, Cheongdam, Hongdae, Myeongdong

✔ For a sure first visit, pick a major chain used to foreign clients
JUNO Hair has shops nationwide, and its Hannam-dong flagship JUNO SEOUL (Google 5.0, 262 reviews) runs scalp clinics and head spas in one flow with practiced multilingual service. Hongdae is where salons with thousands of foreign reviews line up: TheDaysHair (Google 4.9, 3,830 reviews), voguehair (5.0, 3,483), CCA Hair Salon (4.9, 1,966) and JUNO Hair’s Hongdae Seogyo Tower branch (5.0, 874). In Cheongdam, Jenny House Cheongdam Hill (4.7, 531) is known for styling celebrities (ratings checked September 4, 2026).

By area: Hannam and Cheongdam are expensive and certain; Hongdae has young designers and the fastest-moving perm trends at friendlier prices; Myeongdong is easiest to walk into the same day on a short stay, with the most developed Chinese and Japanese service, and combines with cosmetics shops and clinics on the same day.

First Visit? Pick the Director Level! Booking and the Day—Designer Ranks, Photos, No Tipping

✔ The simplest booking is a salon package on Creatrip or Klook
Some come with an interpreter. If you read Korean, Naver booking and the salon’s Instagram DMs work too. When booking you choose the designer’s rank—designer, director (sil-jang), owner (won-jang)—with prices rising in that order. For a first visit, the director level balances price and result.

On the day, confirm the menu and rank at reception, then show your photo in the consultation. Fringe length, ears in or out, perm strength—fingers do the talking. Drinks arrive during the service, and a perm takes two to three hours. Pay by card; there’s no tipping. Photograph the result so a salon at home can reproduce it.

The salon day — Allow half a day for a perm

For placement, put perms and color on day one or two. If photos are planned later in the trip, book two days before rather than the day before, so the perm smell fades and the shape settles. A scalp clinic the day after the flight loosens the neck and shoulders.

FAQ

Do I need Korean?

No. Show a photo and say “this one.” Creatrip and Klook offer packages with an interpreter, and the big shops in Myeongdong and Hannam are used to Chinese, Japanese and English.

What does it cost?

As a guide: women’s cut 25,000–60,000 won, men’s cut 20,000–40,000, perm 100,000–300,000, color 80,000–200,000. It varies with the designer’s rank and your hair length.

What are designer ranks?

Within one shop, designer, director and owner differ in price and experience. You choose when you book. The director level is a good balance for a first visit.

Can I walk in?

Myeongdong shops often take walk-ins, but a perm takes two to three hours, so booking is safer. Flagships in Hannam and Cheongdam need about a week’s notice.

Should I tip?

No. Pay by card. Photograph the finished style so you can ask for the same at home.
