- Gangnam is big. Four hubs: Gangnam Station (Line 2; nightlife, clinics), Sinsa Station exit 8 (Line 3; Garosu-gil), Samseong Station exits 5–6 (Lines 2/9; COEX and Bongeunsa), and Apgujeong Rodeo Station exit 5 (Bundang Line; Cheongdam and Rodeo Street). Between hubs, a taxi is a base fare plus a little.
- Don’t miss Bongeunsa (★4.6, 8,714 reviews; 5:00–22:00, free), Seolleung and Jeongneung royal tombs (★4.6, 853; closed Mon; ₩1,000), Starfield Library (★4.6, 6,843; free) and Dosan Park (★4.5, 2,090). At night: the Banpo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain (Apr–Oct, 20:00/20:30/21:00) and Cheongdam cocktail bars like Chapter Three.
- Gangnam is Seoul’s beauty capital, with dermatology, LASIK and hair salons that work in English. Honestly, traditional markets and street food are weak here — go to Namdaemun or Gwangjang for that — and there is no hiking; nature means Yangjae Stream and the Han River.

Who this is for
- Anyone who only knows Gangnam from “Gangnam Style”
- People with a clinic appointment who want to plan the hours before and after it
- Anyone staring at 6 km of Gangnam and wondering how to slice it into a day
Gangnam is the “new Seoul” planned and built from the 1970s: office towers along Teheran-ro, designer flagships in Apgujeong, fine dining in Cheongdam and the enormous nightlife district around Gangnam Station. The world knows it from PSY’s “Gangnam Style”, but walk it and you find a 1,200-year-old temple, Bongeunsa, wedged between skyscrapers, the pine woods of the Joseon royal tombs at Seolleung, and an underground “waterfall of books” at Starfield Library. Old and new switch every few hundred metres.
To the west, Sinsa is the ginkgo-lined Garosu-gil and its back lanes (Serosu-gil), full of cafés and brand flagships, running north into Apgujeong and Cheongdam. Greater Gangnam is about 6 km east–west and 4 km north–south—you can’t walk it in a day, so plan by treating each subway station as one district.
“So which station do I get off at?” Here’s the thing: this guide cuts Gangnam and Sinsa into 9 themes (sights, food, shopping, beauty, wellness, nature and walks, nightlife, play, art) and lists only places whose address, hours and rating we verified on Google Maps. To be honest, this district has no traditional market, no street-food alley and no hiking. That too is Gangnam “now”, in autumn 2026. Let’s get into it.
A Temple Founded in 794 Between the Towers! Sights and History — Bongeunsa, Seolleung, Starfield Library, Gangnam Station
✔ The 6:00 morning service is the quietest hour
Bongeunsa (봉은사) — 531 Bongeunsa-ro, Gangnam-gu; Line 9 Bongeunsa Station exit 1, or 10 min from Samseong Station exit 6. ★4.6 (8,714 reviews), 5:00–22:00, free. A Seon (Zen) temple founded in 794, whose 23 m Maitreya Buddha standing against the COEX towers is Gangnam’s most iconic view. During the May lantern festival (around Buddha’s Birthday) the grounds fill with thousands of lanterns; Sep–Oct brings the chrysanthemum show. There’s a Templestay (2 days / 1 night, about ₩70,000, English available) and a Thursday 14:00 temple-culture programme for foreigners (free to ₩10,000). The 6:00 morning service is the quietest hour.
Seolleung and Jeongneung (선정릉) — 1 Seolleung-ro 100-gil; Seolleung Station exit 10, 5 min. ★4.6 (853), 6:00–21:00 (Nov–Jan 6:30–17:00), closed Mondays, ₩1,000. Tombs of King Seongjong (9th) and King Jungjong (11th) of Joseon, part of the UNESCO-listed Royal Tombs. Pine woods and grassy mounds open up in the middle of the office district; lunchtime runners and strolling office workers share the paths. Allow 40 minutes.
Starfield Library (별마당도서관) — 513 Yeongdong-daero, Starfield COEX Mall B1; direct from Samseong Station exits 5–6. ★4.6 (6,843), 10:30–22:00, free. A double-height atrium with 13 m bookshelves on three sides — since it opened in 2017, the most photographed spot in Gangnam. About 70,000 books, reading only. Weekend afternoons are packed; come first thing on a weekday or after 21:00.
Gangnam Station is a place to experience rather than see: from exits 10–11, Gangnam-daero and its back alleys are dense with restaurants, noraebang and clinics. Samsung d’light in the Samsung Electronics building at exit 11 (★4.3, 10:00–19:00, open daily) is a free showroom — the right size for 30 minutes on a rainy day.

From ₩8,000 to ₩300,000? Food — Gangnam Station Back Alleys, Cheongdam Reservations, Sinsa Cafés, COEX Food Court
✔ Gangnam’s food is defined by its price range
Gangnam’s food scene is defined by its price range. The alleys behind Gangnam Station serve ₩8,000–12,000 set meals, cold noodles and gamjatang; Cheongdam does ₩200,000–300,000 tasting menus; in between sit the brunch cafés of Sinsa and Apgujeong. There are almost no markets or street stalls, so leave grazing to Hongdae and Gwangjang Market.
Gangnam Station back alleys (east of exits 10–11): Yeongdong Pocha (영동포차) (★4.9, 87) is an old-style pocha (pub) known for rolled omelette and makgeolli. Several 24-hour gomtang and hangover-soup places nearby mean a late finish is never a problem. The COEX B1 food court fills with office workers on weekday lunchtimes — seats are hard to find 11:30–12:30, easy after 13:00.
Cheongdam and Apgujeong Rodeo: the centre of Korean fine dining, with most Michelin-starred restaurants in this belt. Book 1–2 weeks ahead on CatchTable (English version available). For something casual, the cafés and bakeries along K-Star Road (Apgujeong Rodeo Station exit 2, ★4.1, 985) are reasonable. Cafés on Garosu-gil charge ₩7,000–9,000 a cup; step into the back lanes of Serosu-gil for independent shops and a calmer pace. Our “Seoul cafés” and “Seoul breakfast” articles list more Gangnam addresses.

One of Asia’s Largest Underground Malls! Shopping — Starfield COEX, Garosu-gil, Apgujeong Department Stores, GoToMall
✔ The most reliable place in rain, high summer and deep winter
Starfield COEX Mall (스타필드 코엑스몰) — 513 Yeongdong-daero, direct from Samseong Station. ★4.3 (24,757), 10:30–22:00, open daily. One of Asia’s largest underground malls: about 300 shops around Starfield Library, a cinema (Megabox, ★4.4, 7,888), an aquarium and a duty-free shop on the same level. It’s the most reliable place in rain, high summer and deep winter.
Garosu-gil (가로수길) — 5 min from Sinsa Station exit 8. ★4.1 (299). About 700 m of ginkgo-lined street with brand flagships (Apple Garosugil, Gentle Monster and others). It is true that vacancies have grown since 2020; treat it as “the trees and the flagships” and do your actual shopping in Serosu-gil and Apgujeong, and you will leave happier.
Hyundai Department Store Apgujeong (165 Apgujeong-ro; direct from Line 3 Apgujeong Station exit 5; ★4.3, 5,404; 10:30–20:00) and Galleria Luxury Hall (Apgujeong Rodeo Station exit 7; ★4.3, 2,811) are Korea’s two flagship luxury department stores; the food halls’ gift-boxed Korean produce (hanwoo beef, seaweed, traditional liquor) makes good presents. GoToMall (고투몰) (direct from Express Bus Terminal Station; ★4.3, 2,576; 10:00–22:00) is an underground arcade of about 600 shops with clothes and goods at ₩10,000–20,000 — the cheapest shopping in Gangnam. The Gangnam Station underground mall is cosmetics and accessories; do tax refunds at the large Olive Young branches (Gangnam Station, COEX).

A Third of Korea’s Clinics Are Here! Beauty and Healthcare — Gangnam Is the Centre of Korean Aesthetic Medicine (Languages and Price Guide)
✔ About a third of Korea’s aesthetic clinics are in Gangnam-gu
About a third of Korea’s aesthetic clinics are in Gangnam-gu, and the strip from Gangnam Station through Sinnonhyeon to Apgujeong and Cheongdam is the “beauty belt”. Many clinics keep interpreters (English, Chinese, Japanese) on staff, and the Gangnam Tourist Information Center near Apgujeong Rodeo Station has a medical-tourism desk. The places below were verified in our own articles.
Dermatology and aesthetics: our “Gangnam dermatology guide” compares the large clinics around Gangnam Station for English service and prices. Typical rates: laser toning ₩80,000–150,000 per session, forehead Botox ₩50,000–100,000; aftercare instructions are usually in English. LASIK / SMILE: B&VIIT Eye Center (411 Seocho-daero; ★4.9, 1,224) and Bright Eye Gangnam (★4.9, 1,682) have the most experience with foreign patients — exam and surgery in one day, check-up the next. Lifting: PengPeng Clinic (121 Dosan-daero; ★4.9, 2,268).
Hair salons: Juno Seoul (준오서울) (★5.0, 262) and Cheongdam’s Jenny House (56 Seolleung-ro 146-gil; ★4.7, 531; 11:00–18:00) are known for styling K-pop artists; cut plus treatment runs ₩100,000–200,000. Book by Instagram DM or Naver. A note: prices vary widely with the procedure. To avoid a “foreigner price”, get a written quote by email first. This site takes no referral fees from medical providers.

The Only Proper Jjimjilbang at Gangnam Station? Wellness — 24-Hour Spas, Premium Spas, Templestay
✔ Cheap 24-hour saunas or high-end spas, nothing in between
Gangnam’s spas split into cheap 24-hour saunas and high-end spas. Spa Lei (스파레이) — 5 Gangnam-daero 107-gil, Seocho-gu; 5 min from Gangnam Station exit 6. ★4.2 (463), 24 hours, entry about ₩15,000. It’s the only proper jjimjilbang at Gangnam Station, also used as a stand-in for a hotel on late arrivals and early departures. Cleanliness scores well; late at night the crowd is mostly men. Gangnam Korea 24-hour Jjimjilbang (★4.0, 125) serves the same purpose in an older building.
Premium Spa L Yeoksam (프리미엄스파엘) (★5.0, 104) is a private-room spa: Korean body scrub plus massage, 90 minutes for ₩150,000–200,000. Few reviews but consistent ones. Hotel spas in Cheongdam and Apgujeong (Josun, Park Hyatt and others) run ₩300,000–500,000 per course and can be booked through international hotel sites.
The most Gangnam wellness of all is the Bongeunsa Templestay: about ₩70,000 for 2 days / 1 night, with a 4:00 morning service, 108 prostrations, tea ceremony and temple food. Guidance is in English. The day programme “Temple Life” (Thursdays 14:00, about 2 hours) is by reservation and lets you try seated meditation and tea without staying overnight.

No Mountain, More Green Than You Expect! Nature and Walks — Seolleung Woods, Dosan Park, Yangjae Stream, Banpo Hangang Park
✔ No mountain, but more green than you expect
Gangnam has no mountain, but more green than you expect. Seolleung (above) is the quietest walk in central Seoul—about 1.5 km around the pine woods. Dosan Park (도산공원) — 20 Dosan-daero 45-gil; 10 min from Apgujeong Rodeo Station exit 5. ★4.5 (2,090), free, 24 hours. A memorial park to independence activist Ahn Chang-ho (pen name Dosan), ringed by HAUS DOSAN (Gentle Monster, Tamburins) and other much-talked-about shops; coffee on a park bench here is a classic Seoul weekend scene.
Yangjae Stream (양재천): a small river across the south of Gangnam-gu, reached from Line 3 Daechi or Yangjae stations. Known for its metasequoia avenue in autumn (late Oct–Nov) and cherry blossom in early April; the bike path is the easiest ride in Gangnam. Banpo Hangang Park (반포한강공원) — 40 Sinbanpo-ro 11-gil; 10 min from Express Bus Terminal Station exit 8-1. ★4.4 (7,932), 24 hours. Home of the Banpo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain (Apr–Oct; weekdays 20:00, 20:30, 21:00, plus 19:30 at weekends; 20 minutes each; cancelled in rain or strong wind) and the night lights of the Sebitseom floating islands. The definitive place for “Han River chicken” — delivery fried chicken eaten on the grass.
Around COEX in Samseong-dong there is the small hill behind Bongeunsa and, as of 2026, the former KEPCO headquarters site still under redevelopment (Hyundai Motor GBC), so the skyline changes every year. There is no hiking in Gangnam — see our “Seongbuk and Bukhansan” guide, or take the Shinbundang Line 15 minutes to Cheonggyesan, the hill south of Seoul (Cheonggyesan Station).

Seoul’s Most Complete Grown-Up Night? Nightlife — Cheongdam Bars, Gangnam Station Drinking Streets, Banpo Fountain, Clubs
✔ Gangnam nights have three faces
Gangnam nights have three faces. Cheongdam cocktail bars: Chapter Three (챕터쓰리) — 406 Apgujeong-ro, 1F. ★5.0 (944), 20:00–3:00 (Sundays from 19:00). Reservations recommended; cocktails ₩20,000–30,000. Onesize Bar (★5.0, 276), Six Night (★4.9, 415) and Alice Cheongdam (★4.6, 555; speakeasy style) are within walking distance; dress code is smart casual. It’s Seoul’s most complete “grown-up night”.
Gangnam Station drinking streets: in the alleys behind exits 10–11, pochas, barbecue and noraebang run until 2:00–4:00. On Fri–Sat the streets are packed, taxis are scarce after midnight, and it is wiser to catch the last Line 2 train (just after 0:00). Clubs: Octagon (옥타곤) — 645 Nonhyeon-ro; Sinnonhyeon Station exit 4. ★3.6 (354), Fri–Sat 22:00–5:00, entry ₩30,000–50,000. A regular on world club rankings, but its Google rating is low (door staff are the main complaint). Original passport required.
For a slower evening: the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain (above), the giant LED wall on Yeongdong-daero outside COEX, and Bongeunsa’s grounds at night (until 22:00; lanterns lit in May). For a skyline view, the rooftop bars of the Samseong-dong hotels are the sure bet (₩20,000–30,000 for a drink).

Escape Rooms With Several English Themes! Play — Escape Rooms, Aquarium, Screen Golf, Cinema, Noraebang
✔ The most consistently rated escape room in Gangnam
Code K Gangnam (코드케이) — 31 Bongeunsa-ro 2-gil; 5 min from Gangnam Station exit 11. ★4.5 (522), 10:00–23:00, ₩25,000–30,000 per person. It’s the most consistently rated escape room in Gangnam, with several English-language themes. Key Escape Gangnam (★4.7, 57) and Zero World Gangnam (★4.6, 40) are also in walking range. Our “Seoul escape rooms” article covers English support in detail.
SEA LIFE COEX Aquarium (씨라이프 코엑스 아쿠아리움) — 513 Yeongdong-daero, direct from Samseong Station. ★4.4 (12,125), 10:00–20:00, adults about ₩35,000 (discounts online). Large for a downtown aquarium and a rainy-day standby for families. Megabox COEX (★4.4, 7,888) is one of Korea’s biggest multiplexes; foreign films screen in the original language with Korean subtitles. Golfzon Seocho Gangnam Station (★4.0, 131) offers screen golf at ₩20,000–30,000 an hour with club rental.
Noraebang cluster in the Gangnam Station alleys at ₩15,000–25,000 an hour (coin noraebang ₩500 a song). Self-photo studios are everywhere around Gangnam Station and Garosu-gil (₩4,000–5,000 a session). Several PC bang near Gangnam Station run 24 hours. There is no spectator sport in Gangnam — go to Jamsil (baseball) or Mokdong (football); see our “Jamsil” guide.

30 Minutes of Calm From Cheongdam? Art and Design — Horim Museum, ST SongEun, HAUS DOSAN, Cheongdam Galleries
✔ 30 minutes of calm away from Cheongdam
Horim Museum Sinsa (호림박물관 신사분관) — 317 Dosan-daero; 7 min from Apgujeong Rodeo Station exit 5. ★4.2 (159), Tue–Sat 10:30–18:00, closed Sun–Mon, ₩8,000. A private museum of Korean antiquities (ceramics, Buddhist art) in a building shaped like three “ceramic towers”. The special exhibitions are excellent, and it’s 30 minutes of calm away from Cheongdam’s bustle.
ST SongEun (에스티 송은) — 441 Dosan-daero. ★4.3 (178), Tue–Sat 11:00–18:30, free. A triangular-prism building by Herzog & de Meuron, opened in 2021, with free shows by young artists — the building alone is worth the trip. HAUS DOSAN (beside Dosan Park) houses the Gentle Monster, Tamburins and Nudake flagships, a very Gangnam space where shop equals installation.
Cheongdam and Sinsa are also home to Seoul’s commercial galleries, scattered behind Dosan-daero and Apgujeong-ro (most free, closed Mondays). K-pop fans can visit the “GangnamDol” mascot statues along K-Star Road and the entertainment-company buildings in Cheongdam (photos from outside only). Pair this with our “Seoul museums” article and the pop-ups in our “Seongsu” guide.

FAQ
Can I see Gangnam in one day?
In a day, the realistic route is Samseong Station (Bongeunsa, COEX, Starfield Library) → Seolleung → Apgujeong Rodeo and Dosan Park → a Cheongdam bar. Save Garosu-gil and Gangnam Station for another day or for the evening. Gangnam is 6 km wide; treat each station as one district.
Can foreigners join the Bongeunsa Templestay?
Yes. It costs about ₩70,000 for 2 days / 1 night, with English guidance, booked on the official site. The non-overnight “Temple Life” (Thursdays 14:00, about 2 hours) covers meditation and a tea ceremony; reserve by that morning.
When does the Banpo Bridge fountain run?
April to October in the evening: weekdays at 20:00, 20:30 and 21:00, with an extra 19:30 show at weekends, 20 minutes each. Cancelled in rain or strong wind. It is 10 minutes from Express Bus Terminal Station exit 8-1; the lawn of Banpo Hangang Park is the classic viewpoint.
Do I need an interpreter at a Gangnam beauty clinic?
The major dermatology clinics, eye centres and hair salons have English-speaking staff, but the safe move is to get a written quote by email or messaging app first. The Gangnam Tourist Information Center near Apgujeong Rodeo Station has a medical-tourism desk.
Is there a market or street food in Gangnam?
Honestly, almost none. For a traditional market go to Namdaemun (Line 4 Hoehyeon Station) or Gwangjang Market (Line 1 Jongno 5-ga Station), 30–40 minutes from Gangnam Station. Gangnam’s “cheap and good” is the set meals, gomtang and pochas in the alleys behind Gangnam Station.
How do I get from Incheon Airport to Gangnam?
Limousine bus 6009 (via Gangnam Station, Seolleung and Samseong Station) is the easiest: about 80 minutes, ₩17,000. By rail, AREX to Seoul Station then Line 4 and Line 2 takes about 90 minutes. Arriving late at night, Spa Lei (Gangnam Station, 24 hours) is a place to sleep a few hours.
