7 am from Hongdae, 165,000 Won with Lift Pass and Rentals! Day-Trip Skiing from Seoul — Vivaldi Park and Elysian Gangchon Open in Early December, and You Can Go Empty-Handed [Things Worth Doing in Korea #30]

In three lines

  • The two classic day-trip ski resorts from Seoul are Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon (about 1.5 hours by road, Google ★4.3 with 16,216 reviews) and Elysian Gangchon in Chuncheon (about 1 hour, ★4.4 with 531). For the 2025-26 season Vivaldi opened on December 5 and Elysian on December 6. The 2026-27 dates are usually announced in November.
  • The easiest option is a day tour with a shuttle. Trazy’s Vivaldi one-day tour leaves Hongik University Station at 7 am and Euljiro 1-ga Station at 7:30, arrives at 9, skis 10 am–5:30 pm and is back in Seoul at 8 pm. With ski, clothing and helmet rental plus a 7-hour lift pass it lists at 165,000 won, 190,000 won with a one-hour English group lesson, or 30,000 won for the round-trip bus only.
  • All you bring are gloves and goggles (gloves 20,000 won and goggle rental 10,000 won on site). Elysian Gangchon has Klook’s official day tour from US$44.79 (★4.8, 3,400+ reviews), and you can also reach it by train on the ITX-Cheongchun to Baegyang-ri Station. Both tours allow free date changes and cancellation up to two days before, so you can decide on the weather.

Who this guide is for

  • Travelers in Seoul between December and March who want one ski day without bringing gear
  • Anyone deciding between Vivaldi Park and Elysian Gangchon
  • People who want the shuttle tour prices, itinerary and packing list before booking

‘Can I ski on a trip to Korea?’ Yes — and if you catch a 7 am bus from a Seoul station, you can do it as a day trip with zero equipment. Pack gloves and goggles, and rent everything else on site.

It comes down to two resorts. Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon has wide slopes and skiing late into the night; Elysian Gangchon in Chuncheon is an hour from Seoul and reachable by train. Both have gentle beginner slopes and are where many Koreans have their first day on skis.

To be honest, it isn’t cheap: 165,000 won for skis, clothing and a 7-hour lift pass, 190,000 won with a lesson. But set against hauling ski gear from Japan or Taiwan, the ’empty-handed price’ makes sense.

This guide covers how the two resorts differ, the shuttle tour itinerary and prices (2026/27 list prices as of September 2026), how to go by train, and a packing list. Opening dates and lift prices get updated after the November announcements, so for now use this to decide whether a ski day fits your trip.

One to One and a Half Hours from Seoul! Vivaldi Park or Elysian Gangchon — Which One?

✔ Vivaldi for size and night skiing, Elysian for proximity and the train
The day-trip ski resorts from Seoul come down to Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon (홍천) and Elysian Gangchon in Chuncheon (춘천). Vivaldi Park is among Korea’s largest, with a daily capacity of 20,000 people, 10 slopes and 10 lifts including a gondola. It opens at 9 am, and on late-night days the skiing runs until 3 am. It’s about 1.5 hours from Seoul by road, with Google Maps ★4.3 (16,216 reviews).

Elysian Gangchon is the closest full-scale ski resort to Seoul. It’s about an hour by road, and on the ITX-Cheongchun (ITX-청춘) train from Yongsan or Cheongnyangni you ride to Baegyang-ri (백양리) Station and switch to the resort shuttle. It’s smaller than Vivaldi with a higher share of beginners; for the December 2025 opening it replaced 1,000 helmets with new ones and added a children’s snow play area. Google Maps ★4.4 (531 reviews).

To be upfront, neither meets this site’s bar (★4.5 or higher with 100+ reviews). But since these two are essentially the only day-trip resorts from Seoul, choose on distance, size and access rather than the rating. If you want to ski hard, Vivaldi; if it’s your first time or you want to be back by afternoon, Elysian.

2025-26 Opened on December 5 and 6! Season Length, and Waiting on the 2026-27 Dates

✔ Gangwon-do resorts open in sequence from late November to early December
For 2025-26, Gangwon-do’s Phoenix Park and Mona Yongpyong in Pyeongchang opened first on November 21, High1 in Jeongseon on November 28, then Vivaldi Park and Welli Hilli Park on December 5 and Elysian Gangchon on December 6. For the two near Seoul, ‘early December’ is the rule of thumb. The season runs to early March, and snow conditions are best from late December through February.

The 2026-27 opening dates are not announced as of September 2026, when this was written. Each resort usually announces in November, and tour calendars then show ‘December to early March’. Trazy’s tour is listed as ‘every day (December to early March)’, so for a trip in the first half of December, confirm the opening date before booking. This article will be updated when the dates are out.

A word on crowds. Weekends in the Korean school winter break (late December to February) and the Seollal holiday (Feb 6–9 in 2027) bring families and longer lift lines. Weekday day tours are quieter and lessons tend to be smaller. Conversely, right after opening in late November or early December only some runs are open, so mid-December onward is a safer bet than ‘go because it just opened’.

7 am from Hongdae, Back in Seoul at 8 pm! The Shuttle Day Tour Itinerary and Prices

✔ 165,000 won for a 7-hour lift pass plus skis, clothing and helmet
The no-fail option is a day tour with a shuttle. Trazy’s Vivaldi Park one-day tour leaves Hongik University Station Exit 8 at 7 am and Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 8 (by Myeongdong) at 7:30, stops at a rental shop for skis and clothing, and reaches the resort at 9. You ski from 10 am to 5:30 pm, leave at 6 and are back in Seoul at 8 pm.

The price for ‘ski, clothing and helmet rental plus a 7-hour lift pass plus round-trip bus’ is 165,000 won list, the same for snowboard. Add a one-hour beginner group lesson in English (up to 15 people, 11 am–noon) and it’s 190,000 won; the set with the Snowy Land sledding area is 237,000 won. The round-trip shuttle alone is 30,000 won, the cheapest route for anyone with their own gear or who wants to buy just a lift pass on site. The pre-season early-bird sale ran up to 33% off (until October 16 in 2026).

For Elysian Gangchon, Klook’s official day tour starts at US$44.79, shows at around 62,000 won in Google Maps’ booking panel, runs 12 hours, and is rated ★4.8 (3,400+ reviews, 40,000+ booked). There are rental, lesson and self-ride packages with English- and Chinese-speaking staff on site. Both tours allow free date changes and cancellation up to two days before, so you can make the final call after checking the forecast — that’s the strength of a day trip.

Bring Only Gloves and Goggles! The Packing List, and How to Go by Train

✔ Not included in rentals: gloves, goggles, socks and face masks
The tour rental covers skis or a snowboard, boots, jacket and pants, and a helmet. What’s not included is gloves, goggles, socks and face coverings — no tour lends them, for hygiene reasons. On site, gloves are 20,000 won and goggle rental 10,000 won, so bringing waterproof gloves and goggles from home brings that cost to zero. Pack thick socks, a thermal base layer, lip balm, and a spare phone battery (the cold drains it fast).

If you’d rather take the train, choose Elysian Gangchon. Ride the ITX-Cheongchun from Yongsan (용산) or Cheongnyangni (청량리) to Baegyang-ri (백양리) Station — a little over an hour from Yongsan — and switch to the resort’s free shuttle out front. Lift passes and rentals are sold at the resort counters, but 2026-27 prices aren’t published yet; they’ll be added here once confirmed. Vivaldi Park has no railway station, so the tour shuttle, the resort’s direct bus or a taxi are the realistic ways in.

Three bits of Korean slope etiquette for first-timers: (1) keep your lift pass in the arm or chest pocket of your jacket (the gates scan it), (2) don’t sit down in the middle of a run, (3) respect the rental return time (a 7-hour pass means 7 hours from pickup). Lessons are English group sessions, so even with no Korean you’ll have stopping and turning down within the hour.

Where to Ski? Map and Summary — Vivaldi Park and Elysian Gangchon

Ratings are Google Maps as of September 17, 2026; opening dates and lift prices will be updated after the November announcements.
